Call for World Affairs Challenge Virtual Exchange

The Stevens Initiative has announced its support of a new program called the World Affairs Challenge Virtual Exchange, to be implemented by WorldDenver with programmatic support provided by the World Affairs Challenge.


The World Affairs Challenge Virtual Exchange serves high school students in Colorado and the Middle East/North Africa region through an online, mobile-accessible exchange in which bi-national student teams learn and practice leadership development, cross-cultural communication, and project management.


Similar to the World Affairs Challenge, Virtual Exchange teams address a problem in their communities connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Virtual Exchange teams then create a solution to present in video format.


In addition to expanding the traditional WAC program to include bi-national participants, Virtual Exchange teams are encouraged to connect with their group and other exchange participants through asynchronous messaging channels and personal social media.

Eligibility :

Youth ages 14-17 in the state of Colorado and the Middle East, North Africa region

Benefits :

The World Affairs Challenge (WAC) participants explore different cultures and aspects of international affairs, develop leadership skills, network with professionals, expand their future goals, and realize the impact and positive power of their ideas, voices, and projects.


WAC participants acquire and put into practice the leadership skills that are necessary in today’s global workforce, including:

  • Collaborative problem-solving

  • Project and time management

  • Adaptability and cultural awareness

  • Public speaking

  • Research

  • Civic engagement
